Capell Barnett Matalon & Schoenfeld LLP (CBM&S) is pleased to announce that Nashia Akuamoah-Boatemaa, a first-year student at CUNY School of Law, has been selected as the recipient of the firm’s Diversity Scholarship through Religious Law Advisors, a CBM&S Group.

The scholarship recognizes law students from underrepresented communities who demonstrate academic achievement, a commitment to community service, and an interest in representing religious organizations.

In addition to receiving the scholarship, Nashia will join CBM&S in Summer 2027 for a paid internship with the firm’s Not-for-Profit and Religious Organizations practice group.

Recognizing Academic Excellence and Community Commitment

Nashia was selected for her impressive academic accomplishments, dedication to her faith, and meaningful involvement in her religious community.

Her experiences serving her church and community have shaped her understanding of the important role legal counsel plays in helping religious and nonprofit organizations fulfill their missions.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Nashia shared:

“I am deeply grateful to be selected as a recipient of the Capell Barnett Matalon & Schoenfeld Diversity Scholarship and for the opportunity to intern with the firm in Summer 2027. This opportunity is especially meaningful to me because of the firm’s work with religious and nonprofit organizations, a sector that strongly connects with my own experiences serving in my church and community.”

She also expressed her enthusiasm for learning from attorneys whose work aligns with her professional goals and her desire to make a positive impact through the legal profession.

Investing in the Next Generation of Legal Professionals

The CBM&S Diversity Scholarship reflects the firm’s commitment to supporting aspiring attorneys from underrepresented communities and encouraging greater diversity within the legal profession.

As a Summer 2027 intern, Nashia will have the opportunity to gain practical experience alongside attorneys in CBM&S’ Not-for-Profit and Religious Organizations practice group. The internship will introduce her to legal matters affecting organizations dedicated to serving their communities.

Supporting Religious and Not-for-Profit Organizations

CBM&S provides comprehensive legal services to religious institutions and not-for-profit organizations.

The firm’s attorneys advise clients on a wide range of matters, including corporate governance, tax-exempt status, regulatory compliance, real estate transactions, employment issues, succession planning, and litigation.

By supporting future attorneys who share an interest in this field, CBM&S seeks to encourage the development of legal professionals who understand the unique challenges facing mission-driven organizations.

Congratulations, Nashia!

CBM&S congratulates Nashia Akuamoah-Boatemaa on this achievement and looks forward to welcoming her to the firm in Summer 2027.
