Biography
Damianos Markou practices trusts and estates law, concentrating his practice in trust and estates litigation proceedings in the New York State Surrogate’s Courts. Damianos has extensive experience and has successfully represented individual and corporate clients in a variety of Surrogate’s Court proceedings including probate contests, contested accountings, discovery proceedings, reverse discovery proceedings, construction proceedings, right of election proceedings, guardianships, administration proceedings and other miscellaneous Surrogate’s Court proceedings.
Damianos has represented individual and corporate clients in the administration of estates and trusts and has successfully represented and defended clients’ estate tax filings before the Internal Revenue Service and the New York State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance. Damianos is also involved in estate planning and the drafting of wills and trusts for his clients.
While in law school, Damianos enrolled in a summer law program in Moscow State University, in Moscow, Russia where he studied the Russian legal system in transition and the Russian language. After law school, Damianos began his career as an attorney with a firm who had acted as Counsel to the Public Administrator of Queens County representing clients in all aspects of complex Surrogate’s Court proceedings.
Damianos is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Nassau County Bar Association. Damianos was a speaker at the New York State Bar Association seminar titled “Probate and Administration of Estates” in 2016. He presented at the Nassau County Bar at a CLE program titled “Ending an Estate.”
Damianos was an NCAA All American Wrestler for Hunter College of the City University of New York and he competed in the 1992 and 1996 United States Wrestling Olympic Trials. Damianos was inducted into the Hunter College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.
