Biography
Peter manages the litigation practice group which litigates before New York, Florida and California’s state and federal trial and appellate courts.
The practice handles a wide range of litigation including commercial contracts and claims, corporate governance, shareholder rights, not-for-profit and religious organization controversies including ecclesiastical first amendment constitutional issues and their justiciability and interplay with secular courts, real property disputes of all sorts including commercial and complex residential leasing and other landlord-tenant matters, trust and estate litigation, labor and employment disputes, and select criminal defense matters.
Peter prides himself in having established a reputation as a fierce advocate for his clients who knows how to leverage his litigation skills to achieve a successful resolution, whether it be through trial or a pragmatic settlement. He has personally tried several dozen cases and settled well over a thousand in his nearly 30 years of practice.
Peter is a past four-term Vice President of the Kings County Housing Court Bar Association and continues to serve on their Appellate and By-Laws Committees. He has lectured on various real estate litigation topics to judges and attorneys alike, at bar association continuing education forums and judicial seminars through the New York City courts. He has several published decisions and articles in the New York Law Journal and other professional periodicals and New York City newspapers which showcase his successes.
Recent Presentations & Publications:
October 29, 2019: Peter presented on a CLE panel at the Brooklyn Bar Association on the new Tenant Protection Act of 2019 that became effective as of June 14th.
April 19, 2019: Peter presented a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program at the New York Women’s Bar Association, where he addressed “RPAPL 745.2: Pendente Lite Rent Deposits in Summary Eviction Proceedings.
Education
Outside the office
Peter’s wife Tricia is a Nurse Practitioner (NP) and recently joined the New York Presbyterian Cornell’s Neurosurgery team. Their oldest daughter Alexa is a Surgical Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN), who now practices in San Francisco. Their middle daughter Emily was a Fellow at Climate Nexus, a Rockefeller University funded strategic communications organization dedicated to changing the conversation on climate and clean energy solutions and is currently assistant teacher at a charter school in Long Island City. Their youngest, Shoshana, is enjoying her golden years in high school and is an accomplished competitive gymnast. When not dedicated to serving his clients, Peter enjoys photography, tennis, skiing and travel, as well as reading and discussing philosophy, physics and politics over a fine single malt scotch.
