Yvonne R. Cort

Yvonne R. Cort is a Partner at Capell Barnett Matalon & Schoenfeld LLP, where she focuses her practice on resolving Federal and New York State tax controversies. Whether audits, collection issues or other tax concerns, Yvonne brings a fresh perspective to tax solutions. 

For over sixteen years, Yvonne has assisted clients with tax matters including New York State and New York City residency audits, unfiled returns, income tax, sales tax, withholding tax, responsible person assessments, liens and levies, innocent spouse, voluntary disclosure, installment agreements and offers in compromise. She identifies the tax problems facing individuals and businesses, and vigorously represents their interests before the Internal Revenue Service and the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance.

Yvonne has been selected to New York Metro SuperLawyers, a designation given to only 5% of the lawyers in the state.  She also has an AV Pre-eminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.  She has served as Chair of the Tax Law Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association, and is currently Chair of the IRS Long Island Practitioner Liaison Group.  She is a member of the New York State Bar Association Tax Section, where she has contributed to policy papers.

Yvonne is an accomplished author and her articles on tax topics have been featured in numerous accounting and legal publications. She is a regular speaker for many professional groups in New York and Florida, including each year at the Long Island Tax Professionals Symposium co-sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and the National Conference of CPA Practitioners (Nassau/Suffolk Chapter).   Yvonne has been interviewed by Channel 12 and been a guest on several radio shows.  She has been quoted by Bloomberg BNA with respect to New York State tax issues, by Long Island Business News regarding New York residency matters, and by Newsday regarding negotiations with the IRS.

Yvonne received her B. A. magna cum laude from the University of Rochester, and her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  Yvonne is admitted to the Bar in New York and Pennsylvania, and admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court.
